What is Depression?

Depression is more than just feeling sad or down. It is a serious medical condition that affects how you feel, think, and manage daily tasks. Left untreated, depression can lead to significant emotional and physical problems.

Types of Depression

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Persistent feelings of sadness or loss of interest in activities, affecting daily life.

  • Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD): A chronic form of depression lasting for two years or more, with less severe but longer-lasting symptoms than MDD.

  • Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Depression that occurs at certain times of the year, usually during the winter months when sunlight is reduced.

  • Postpartum Depression: Intense sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion experienced by some women after childbirth.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a normal part of life, but when it becomes overwhelming or persistent, it can interfere with daily activities. Anxiety disorders involve excessive worry, fear, or nervousness that can significantly impact your well-being.

Types of Anxiety

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Characterized by chronic and exaggerated worry about everyday events.

  • Panic Disorder: Involves sudden, intense episodes of fear or discomfort (panic attacks), often without a clear trigger.

  • Social Anxiety Disorder: Extreme fear of social or performance situations, worrying about being judged or embarrassed.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions) aimed at reducing anxiety.

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Anxiety that develops after exposure to a traumatic event, characterized by flashbacks, avoidance, and hypervigilance.
